I lead Writers SA, the peak organisation for writers and literature in the state. I'm responsible for strategy, business planning and governance, advocacy, partnerships and stakeholder management, finance and fundraising, and I oversee the annual artistic program of events. Established in 1985, Writers SA was the first writers’ centre in Australia, and continues to act as a resource for writers of all ages and experiences, assisting both new and established writers on every aspect of writing craft and publishing. Writers SA is on Kaurna land, and we acknowledge Kaurna people as the original storytellers of this place.

    • Chair
      • May 2019 - Present

In 2021, I was elected Chair of Arts Industry Council of South Australia, having held office as Deputy Chair since 2020 and committee member since 2019. I act as the public face of AICSA, representing the organisation and our members to government and media. AICSA is the state’s independent, sector wide representative arts body, constituted as an incorporated institution in 1991. Our members include over one hundred of the state’s arts and cultural organisations and independent artists. - We circulate reliable, up to date information about state and federal arts budgets, policy issues and other matters affecting the arts in South Australia. - We meet regularly with Arts SA’s Executive Director as well as ministerial advisers to ensure effective communication between the arts sector and government. - We take delegations to government ministers and other key decision makers to let them know the views and concerns of the arts sector and what we want them to do in response. - We generate and circulate issues papers providing background and detail on current matters of concern to the arts sector. - We are a key contact for arts journalists, and are regularly asked for background information on arts issues. - We maintain national and international networks with allied arts information agencies. - We mount lobby and advocacy campaigns and we provide materials to AIC members to help them speak out. - We host public forums and discussion evenings to pass on and gather the views of the arts sector and identify actions.

I was the inaugural Chair of the Kat Muscat Fellowship, established by the Muscat family and Express Media to honour the legacy of my dear friend. The annual Kat Muscat Fellowship offers professional development for an editorial project or work of writing by a young woman or non-binary person. Kat’s writing embodied her personal mantra of feminism, empathy and defiance, and each year the recipient of the fellowship is asked to take up her notion of challenge: exploring bold subjects, thinking deeply and critically about the world and the culture we consume, and reflecting and building on the craft of writing or editing. Applicants must be female or non-binary, and aged between 16 to 30 at the commencement of the Fellowship. The Kat Muscat Fellow is selected by the Custodial Committee of The Kat Muscat Legacy Projects, which includes members of Express Media’s board and staff, the Muscat family and appointed community members. The Kat Muscat Fellowship is made possible through the generous support of our community. Donate: https://expressmedia.org.au/programs/the-kat-muscat-fellowship/
