I was granted a Postgraduate Teaching Fellowship, where I taught first year undergraduate chemistry students in tutorials and marked final exams. In my third year, I also supervised and mentored new teaching fellows.

Mar 2016 - Mar 2020
I conducted independent research and lead a team in designing novel peptides based on heat shock protein 27 (Hsp27) as a potential treatment for cancer or neurodegenerative diseases. I also collaborated with Prof. Judith Frydman of Stanford University in designing peptides targetting the TCP-1 ring complex (TRiC) as a tool for understanding the role of the protein-protein interactions between TRiC and it's co-chaperone Prefoldin.• Synthesised, purified and characterised linear, biotinylated and FITC-tagged peptides of 5-36 amino acids in length.• Optimised various binding and functional assays for peptide screening.• Assessed the impact of peptides on various protein aggregates.• Assessed the impact of peptides on the oligomerization state of Hsp27.• Trained undergraduate and research students in organic synthesis, biochemical assays and data analysis.• Presented results at domestic and international conferences.• Organised results, wrote manuscripts for publications and addressed reviewer comments. • Managed collaborations within the university, NSW and internationally. As an Honours research student, my research was on synthesising peptides that targetting Hsp27 as a cancer therapeutic. This was my first truly independent research opportunity, where I learnt how to organise projects and time. The results I generated this year helped me structure my goals and approach for my PhD research.• Synthesised, purified and characterized a fluorinated statin with a phenylalanine side chain.• Synthesised, purified and characterized various furanone-22 analogues• Surface coating with antimicrobial compounds based on quorum sensing inhibitors. As part of a special projects course, I undertook research in Dr. Luke Hunter's group in the School of Chemistry where I synthesised, purified and characterized a fluorinated statin with a phenylalanine side chain. I wrote a final report on my research, kept a experiment plan and recorded experiments in a lab notebook.

For a special projects course, I worked on a different project in Prof. Naresh Kumar's group, where I coated surfaces with anti-microbial compounds based on quorum sensing inhibitors. This research included:• Synthesising a biocyclic furanone• Attaching various furanones onto glass surfaces• Culturing bacteria on the glass surfaces and assessing the amount of growth.• Keeping an experiment plan, lab notebook and a final report.
