In March 2020, the 3DBio team looked at ways to use our knowledge and facility to assist the fight against COVID-19. After discussions with COVID ICU Workers, we learned what they need most was protection from the virus. We hadn’t heard of Powered Air-Purifying Respirators until we started this project. After discussions with COVID ICU Workers, we learned what they need most was protection from the virus. We hadn’t heard of Powered Air-Purifying Respirators until we started this project. The goal was to build PAPRs that did not draw on the already depleted supply chain for filters, batteries, fans, hoses, and hoods. Received NIOSH approval for the FELIX100 PAPR in just 7 weeks. - Co-designed a PAPR (Personal Air Purifying Respirator) in 4 weeks. - Assisted in building a HEPA filter testing jig and developed a release assay. - Ramped up to 40 units per week by working with machine shops and other outside component vendors Show less
