The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is comprised of proud union members with a wide diversity of skills and jobs. One of the most progressive unions in existence, the IBEW represents some 750,000 members in the United States and Canada. I started as an apprentice lineman in 1988 and became a Journeyman Lineman in IBEW local # 1439 in St. Louis, MO in 1990, since then I have worked around the country as an IBEW Journeyman Lineman, for companies such as Par, Asplundh, Sachs, Henkels and McCoy, Michels, ABB, AmerenUE, Xcel energy and Hamlin just to name a few. My experiences include transmission, distribution, substation, and light rail, as well as storm work. I have built substations from the ground up, rebuilt and installed power plant step-up transformers, changed breakers and terminated control cabinets , installed disconnects and motor operators, mostly in hot substations. I have also built transmission lines from the start to the finish, including framing, wire pulling, clipping and dead-ending, and installing jumpers and spacers, on voltages up to 500kv. While on transmission work, I have worked with Helicopters, and operated cranes, as well as running the pulling equipment. I have pulled fiber optic/OPGW, dead-ended and clipped, and I am also familiar with the splicing of fiber optic. My distribution experience includes re-conductors, new line, pole change-outs, underground, and running a service truck. The voltages ranged from 120v to 34kv. While on the service truck, I responded to customer calls, to include outages, meter sets, and complaints.
