Senior Civil Engineer-Transmission Line Group

I was promoted within 2 years on the project to Senior Civil Engineer, Transmission Line Group, which included Tower Spotting and Switching Station Consultant duties. This project, Inga Shaba was the largest Hydro-Generated Electric, 500 KV, DC Transmission Line ever constructed to date. The Transmission Line was over 1700 kilometers in length with 2 Converter sites and 4 Switching Stations crossing from the West Coast of Zaire, Africa, Easterly swinging Southerly at Kananga, Zaire, terminating in the mineral rich Shaba Province in the city of Kolwezi. Several employees and too many to count local hires lost their lives over 10 years seeing this project to a successful completion in 1982. From many experiences in the African bush I learned more about myself than anything else. A huge milestone in my career.
