Teaching Agriscience at Vinton High School with a STEM curriculum focused on inquiry based learning with a technology enriched experience for my students. I am attempting to go paperless with our district's learning management system, Blackboard, as I challenge my students to advance their computer skills through the use of laptops within the classroom environment.My focus on my project based courses like Agriscience III and Horticulture is challenging my students to develop a broad understanding of skills, processes and procedures that are necessary within the agricultural industries, vocational industries, landscaping and horticulture industries. Learning business process associated with project planning, design, equipment management, and cost versus profit metrics will empower the students to have an appreciation for all aspects of agricultural and vocational mechanics. Advancing through promotion to the Technology Operations and Support Coordinator for Calcasieu Parish School Board I was responsible for management of technical staff, district network resources, and departmental budgets.My responsibilities included management of an enterprise network of 62 schools and 15 administrative sites across the geographical area of Calcasieu Parish which includes direct support for all wired and wireless technologies providing internet and network resources for the school district. Some of the technologies include email service, private cloud resources, content filtering, VOIP, virtual classroom services, unified communications, web development, video security, security and access control, and application development for the district.During the course of this employment, I was the school district representative at the state level for issues dealing with technology implementations with online testing. Our district provided pilot programs for state online testing providing feedback of a technical nature to the Louisiana Department of Education.Yearly technology conferences provided me the opportunity to participate as a presenter of content for local and state conferences and training opportunities. These included content on technology use in the classroom, technology solutions for district network management, as well as solutions that our district leveraged for cost management. During the course of my employment as a Network Specialist, I was responsible for many facets of technology support for Calcasieu Parish School Board. This included district wide implementation of enterprise software used for the Department of Library Services. Direct support for the software as well as professional training for staff members on the software use were part of my continued responsibilities for this position.Technical Support for network services expanded through professional training as well as on the job training. My responsibilities included direct support for network infrastructure, which included both wired and wireless technologies. I expanded my knowledge of internet services to included support for internet filtering for the district, as well as network traffic monitoring.Through my growth in this position I was able to successfully communicate technical issues to educators and staff throughout the district, providing professional development opportunities for district staff on the technologies available to them as employees of Calcasieu Parish School Board.
