Projects and Responsibilities: (1) The development and implementation of high-throughput/high-content screening assays for the discovery of small molecules that influence the quaternary structure of the HIV-1 Nef virulence factor. (2) Executing the confirmatory and secondary (functional) assays required to validate potential inhibitors identified from the primary screening process. Testing includes monitoring levels of HIV replication, infectivity, receptor downregulation and key protein-protein interactions. (3) Management and oversight of PhD student trainees in cell-based methods for studying protein-protein interactions, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry as well as other techniques of cell and molecular biology.(4) Continue serving as the Director of the departmental imaging facility. Jul 2013 - Apr 2015
My research focused on (1) Implementation of the BiFC-HTS assay for screening large chemical libraries (2) detailed statistical analysis (3) confirmatory and secondary assays and (4) the development of better functional assays to assess potential active compounds (hits) against HIV infectivity, replication and receptor down-regulation.

Aug 2009 - Jul 2013
My research focused on (1) the structure-function relationship of the HIV-1 accessory protein Nef and (2) the development of cell-based fluorescent assays to enable high-throughput screening of large chemical libraries for new lead compounds that interfere with specific protein-protein interactions.
