  De PRECIOUS (‘Prevention of complications to improve outcome in elderly patients with acute stroke') is een gerandomiseerde, fase-III, klinische trial, met een beoogd aantal van 3800 patiënten in 80 ziekenhuizen in 9 Europese landen. De studie onderzoekt of preventie van aspiratie, infecties en koorts met metoclopramide, paracetamol, ceftriaxon, of een combinatie van deze middelen, in de eerste 4 dagen na een beroerte de functionele uitkomst verbetert na 90 dagen bij oudere patiënten met een acute beroerte.
