  DMC is a high-volume 465 bed Level II Trauma Center, a Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and a STEMI Center. Responsibilities: -Obtain histories and perform physical exams for transfers, ER admissions, and consultations. Diagnose and treat common conditions in the hospitalized patient. -Cross cover for more than 200 patients on the hospitalist service, including an ICU step-down unit of 14 beds.-Write brief overnight progress notes, prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests. -Initiate & manage various drips in the step down unit, including but not limited to: amiodarone, dexmedetomidine, diltiazem, dobutamine, dopamine, insulin (non-DKA), nitroglycerin, vasopressin.-Lead the Rapid Response team. -Lead Internal Stroke Alerts in conjunction with Stroke Certified RN.-Consult specialists as appropriate for overnight emergencies.-Work closely with Intensivist for transfer of critically ill patients to the ICU.-Collaborate with nursing house supervisors, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and nursing staff.
