Hiring Jeremy as Event Manager for Martin’s Ride To Cure Cancer was fortuitous serendipity. I met Jeremy as Manager of the Bicycle Chain store on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Jeremy ran an outstanding store. His and his team’s service was always detailed, patient and knowledgeable about key brands such as Specialized, Trek, Continental and Genuine Innovations. I shared my desire to bicycle across the United States to increase awareness about the need for Cancer research with intent. I thought Jeremy could be a great leader for a life long dream of riding across the country. Riding a bicycle across the United States is easier in concept than reality. The United States is a BIG place (lol). Jeremy wasn’t intimated. He researched and created our route through nine states and for over two months of riding / driving. He managed every Martin’s Ride detail with care, intuition and creativity. Martin’s Ride depended on Jeremy’s technical knowledge and strategic planning. I put my life in Jeremy’s hands and would do so again with confidence. Jeremy is more than a great planner. He is committed to the environment. He lives a life that includes regular hiking, biking and climbing trips. He knows equipment from research and use in the field. Many of Jeremy’s friends work in the outdoor industry probably because he worked for Performance Bicycle in Chapel Hill before managing the store on Franklin Street. Jeremy stays connected to friends. He walks his talk and his talk is grounded in years of experience, vast technical sophistication and the ability to improvise solutions out of almost anything. Jeremy also brought a unique visual perspective to Martin’s Ride. It was not unusual to see Jeremy sketching as he waited for me to appear over the horizon. Friends commented on Jeremy’s beautiful and simple photographs (on Martin’s Ride Flickr). I regularly traveled from Durham to Chapel Hill to shop in Jeremy’s store. His store’s look and feel was welcoming, informative and special. His team was polished, friendly and supportive. There are bicycle shops closer to home, but I would rather drive an extra twenty minutes to visit Jeremy’s store near The University of North Carolina. Visiting Jeremy’s store was always worth the extra work. I’ve managed over fifty people in my thirty-year business career. Jeremy is the only
