I started on the ground floor of this RV Rental Marketplace innovator. RV Rental Connection Inc started me as a data entry and marketing intern but within my first few weeks I was able to prove my skills and value to the company and found myself rising to a supervisory/management position for my department. My main focus has been on the quality of training that new employees receive as the company continues to hire. I worked on the training tutorials and wrote many of them myself. As a manager at a start up company you have to focus on efficiency and accuracy of your teams work. I developed and streamlined many of the process in my department and nearly doubled the output of every individual. Coming from the First-Year Experience where we had many meetings and extra time for discussion I noticed that not every employee felt they had a voice in the company. I encouraged the other employees to pose comments and questions that they had in these meetings. This is important to me because the ones that know the processes most sometimes they know how to improve or obsolete those processes. More than productivity, the importance of every employee feeling that they have a right to talk is so that they can have personal ownership and pride in their work. When someone is questioning their tasks they can be given deeper insight into the purpose of their work promoting vigor in their work ethic. Since I took on the role of site-manager on top of my office duties I have not only strengthened my knowledge of computer systems but also understand the structure of providing a platform service. I have had to make many updates to the site which requires my knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and mySQL. I redesigned many parts of the site to increase usability for both desktop and mobile devices. My new position required me to learn about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and find ways to make our results appear both throughout the US and Canada, then later Germany as well. Show less

As a team lead I had to develop new skills and conquer new challenges on a near daily basis. My first role was to facilitate meetings that served to develop a reimagining of a smaller event. Our overall attendance was going to nearly quadruple in a single semester's time which required new processes to track student involvement and new formats to present at the symposium known as "Sense of Place". I developed an app using powerapps from Microscoft and my own coding knowledge of C# to integrate a google spreadsheet that would track student involvement using check-in stations. While our overall attendance was higher it was not equitably distributed (this was a major concern for our following semester). We developed an electronic sign-up that generated automatic emails with everyones itinerary that linked to our app. When the registered attendees made it to their destination they could sign-in on an electronic device. Throughout the evening professors were able to check on their students attendance using our new system. Our event was based around sustainability. That is why we chose to use the electronic services we had at our disposal. If we couldn't be green, then we had no right to preach it. We also looked into sustainability not only as an environmental issue but also as social issue. What good is a green earth if access to that world is not equitable? That is the mentality I drove into my team of 8 students. What is every angle of the issue and how are we going to address it? Show less

Planned and acquired Hospitality related items such as large tents for exposed areas of events, refreshments, info areas, guest check-in, and community outreach for donations. I worked on a team of roughly 10 individuals. I was expected to reach milestones within certain time periods. I was provided with plenty of autonomy and had to regulate my own work and output.
