I assisted the fisheries management biologist stationed at the Havre Area Resource Office in northeast Montana with various long-term monitoring projects of state-managed fish assemblages found in reservoirs and rivers throughout northeast Montana. I conducted and overseen crews for yearly upper Missouri River paddlefish stock mark/recapture surveys via drifting gill nets, along with annual Fall young-of-year paddlefish visual surveys. During Fall visual surveys, I gathered plankton samples via plankton tows to monitor paddlefish food source abundance. Aside from these main duties, I performed public outreach, winter creel surveys, maintained sampling gear, spearheaded local habitat restoration projects, assisted with wild fish transfers, sampled riverine systems via seining, sampled young-of-year sportfish, performed otolith aging, gathered various abiotic data such as dissolved oxygen and water temperature in managed lakes and reservoirs, entered historic fisheries data for Region 6, sampled and tested various reservoirs for harmful algal blooms, gathered genetic samples of native species-of-concern, attained position of safety coordinator for the Havre Area Office and participated in annual safety trainings. I conducted Chinook salmon redd surveys in the Middle Fork Salmon river system located in central Idaho. I collected otoliths, dorsal fin rays and DNA fin clippings from chinook salmon carcasses observed during the redd surveys. I assisted in the aging of Chinook salmon from dorsal fin ray samples. Aside from these main duties, I have assisted in live Chinook salmon roundups at the Sawtooth fish hatchery, assisted in in-stream PIT Array installation in tributaries of the Middle Fork of the Salmon river, drafted the 2019 fin ray technician field season summary report, performed various data entry tasks as requested and data-proofed previously entered data. I assisted in a 10-year ongoing study regarding the effects of cattle grazing on greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) populations in the Pahsimeroi Valley, located in central Idaho. I conducted spotlight trapping of sage grouse and attached identification bands alongside VHF/PTT collars to female sage grouse. Fecal collections were also performed during trapping for future diet analysis. Radio-collared sage grouse were monitored through the nesting season to determine nesting success rates. I conducted brood surveys on successful nests to determine the rates of brood success. During brood surveys, I performed fecal collections for diet analysis. Show less

I assisted in research regarding pre- and post-fire soil characteristics at the Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed located in southwestern Idaho. A total of four field visits to the watershed were conducted during this project. Carbon dioxide soil fluctuations and soil temperature data were collected in the field. Other carbon dioxide soil fluctuation data were collected from eddy co-variance towers situated within the watershed. Laboratory analysis of collected soil samples included soil pH, soil electroconductivity, soil carbonate, soil moisture, water holding capacity and soil inorganic carbon. Soil samples were also packed into tin containers for later analysis. Show less

I was responsible for analysis and digitization of hard-copy records of archaeological sites within Idaho. Digitization was completed in ArcMap. Site information such as age, type, artifacts found, etc., were recorded for each digital site. This project was in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management and was conducted for the conversion of hard-copy archaeological information into digital format. I conducted research under Idaho State University in cooperation with the Bureau of Land Management regarding outdoor trail use surrounding Pocatello, Idaho. In-field surveys were given to participants and questions were asked involving demographics and trail use patterns. I was responsible for the statistical analysis of the survey data as requested by the Bureau of Land Management. After the analysis, I drafted and presented a report to the Bureau of Land Management. I then presented the resulting data at the annual undergraduate research symposium at Boise State University to colleagues. Show less
