Redwood City As second employee I helped grow the science initiative from scratch. I influenced the allocation of philanthropic funding toward biomedical research, including grantmaking and data infrastructure for the Human Cell Atlas, supporting 300+ scientists to collaboratively generate, analyze, and share single-cell transcriptomic data. I also led early efforts to support open science and software, including funding for bioRxiv, and a novel grant program for open source software. I also led early efforts to support open science and software, including funding for bioRxiv, and a novel grant program for open source software. I directly supervised a 6+ computational biology team focused on building open source software tools for analyzing and visualizing biological data, and making biomedical science more open, collaborative, and inclusive. I managed a team of 4+ scientists, engineers, and developers working on computational tools for understanding the mechanisms of large-scale neural coding in mouse cortex and whole-brain anatomy and circuitry in zebrafish. Along the way, we built a software platform for sharing computational analyses that now has ~500,000 monthly users (mybinder.org). We also started a community bringing 100+ of neuroscientists and data scientists together (codeneuro.org). My PhD research established links between statistical models of image processing (e.g. deep neural networks) and how the primate brain processes visual information. I published 15+ papers, and trained in cellular, molecular, and systems biology, statistics, machine learning, and signal processing.
