Broad areas of resposibility, to name a few: • Responsible of engine room watchkeeping in co-operation with a 3rd Engineer and Motorman. The watchkeeping was shared by three watchkeeping teams and beyond operating and monitoring the machinery, the watches had specific areas of responsibility. I had two different areas of responsibility on two different occasions: - “Water watch”, which included water quality monitoring and appropriate chemical dosing for potable water, cooling water and steam systems to ensure a good water quality in the systems. Responsibilities also included routine maintenance on associated equipment according to the planned maintenance system (AMOS). The water watch was also responsible for water production (Evaporator or Reverse Osmosis) to ensure sufficient amounts of technical and fresh water were available. - “Oil watch”, which included operations including oils, sludge and dirty bilge water, where I was responsible for making necessary entries in the Oil Record Book. Responsibilities included treatment of oily bilge water to allow discharge of treated bilge water through 15ppm equipment at appropriate occasions. Responsibilities also included routine maintenance on associated equipment such as separators and oil sampling of different oils according to the planned maintenance system (AMOS). • Daytime 2nd Engineer, where my responsibilities consisted of both repair work and routine maintenance on the machinery according to planned maintenance system (AMOS), including, for example: - Maintenance and monitoring of Scanship waste water treatment system - Overlooking bunkering operations and planning of such in co-operation with the Chief Engineer and Engine Room Watch-team. - Assisting the watchkeeping teams with maintenance/repairs if needed - Daily visual, audible and tactile inspection of the entire engine room and its components. • Familiarized with the Scrubber Engineer position.
