I hired Jenny to help me establish operations for J. Walter Thompson Advertising in Vietnam. One of the most challenging tasks that I assigned the JWT expat management team was to build the capacity of their Vietnamese staff—all completely new to advertising—to be able to take over operations of the company. Jenny's ability to bring out the very best in her team, to allow them to shine while she cheered quietly from the sidelines and to do so in a very challenging cross-cultural environment where rules changed on a daily basis, was truly outstanding. Jenny’s team was consistently the best in our office and many of them went on to senior management roles with the company in the ensuing years. Vietnam had only been open to foreign investment for a very short period so we were trying to build a company on a constantly shifting foundation. This crazy environment seemed only to fuel Jenny’s passion and commitment. She worked incredibly long hours and a very high level of intensity but through it all maintained her sense of humour and an unsurpassed level of energy. Often Jenny was the reason I made it through the day. Jenny also demonstrated an uncanny ability to read the often murky cultural nuances of our situation in Vietnam. She was well respected by the people we dealt with from government ministers to multi-national clients to local suppliers. I would highly recommend that anyone who gets the chance to hire Jenny do so! She is a gem that will add brilliance to any organization.
