I'm delighted to be taking on the role as the UK representative for ICOM's Committee for Education and Cultural Action (CECA). With over 1,000 members coming from about 85 countries, CECA is also one of its largest Committees. Here you can find out more about who we are, what we do, how you would benefit from being a member of the CECA community. You will also find links to useful resources, including our various publications, details about upcoming awards, and videos from past conferences. http://network.icom.museum/ceca/ I'll be attending CECA Europe regional meetings and feeding back to UK members by email and on social media. If you're a museum, gallery or heritage educator in the UK and a member of ICOM then why not also join CECA. It would be great to grow our membership and share experiences, knowledge and best practice with other education colleagues around the world. Do get in touch with me for additional information about what CECA does and how to join. Show less

I am a museum and heritage learning consultant with over 12 years experience of working in museums, galleries and heritage sites. I am also an academic freelance visiting lecturer in museum studies. I believe that museums are wondrous places just waiting for people to find and explore their meaning for themselves. But this doesn’t just happen by default or by chance, we need to facilitate this exploration and make museums relevant. I am passionate about helping people unlock collections, objects and spaces to explore, learn and take inspiration from in their own way. I am looking to work with you to develop and deliver museum education and learning activities, events, lectures and projects on a freelance or consultancy basis. • Public Programmer, UCL Culture
      • Mar 2015 - Feb 2017

At UCL Culture I had a split role – two part-time posts. One is as a Public Programmer at the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology and the other as UCL East outreach programmer. At the Petrie Museum, I managed all aspects of audience engagement and public access to the collections. I was responsible for the delivery of an innovative programme for an immediate audience of UCL staff and students as well as a range of communities of interest and the public. I also worked to maintain links with the local audiences in Camden and Islington. As part of this role, I worked with the Petrie Museum team to widen access to collections, both stored and on display, through interpretation projects and tours as well as enhancing online access through the museum website including online galleries, e-learning packs, museum blog posts and other social networking channels. In my other role, I was responsible for producing a public programme of activities for outreach work in East London and the four Olympic Boroughs. The programme was a transition series of events for the next 3 years in the run up to UCL and the Public and Cultural Engagement Department launching a new Campus and Museum on the Olympic Park site. I was involved in connecting with local community groups and creative organisations to find out how we can make our collections at UCL relevant and useful to their lives and how we can contribute to the cultural life of the area.
