With responsibility for driving brand performance through effective marketing communications management, I developed a strong working partnership with the GM and management team to align the marketing strategy and function (8+) with key business priorities. Actively driving positive change, I repositioned the marketing focus and brand architecture to be more customer centric, and led a greater analysis of the customer profile by segmenting the customer database to generate more targeted and relevant marketing campaigns. As a result, I engineered a strategic shift in how the business saw the role of marketing to become a proactive member of driving business goals.During this time, I led a number of key projects underpinning revenue growth while maximising marketing ROI, including Freedom’s inaugural ‘paid for’ loyalty program, a social media following, a new CRM program, and the development of a category-first e-commerce platform.

As brand custodian, I had responsibility for all facets of marketing communications spanning planning, strategy, communications, event management, GTM planning and execution, and digital and traditional advertising. A core focus of my role was building a strong message to maintain consumer confidence and reinforce the brand’s position as the premier airline in Australia, while driving international reach. Key projects include leading the communications strategy for ‘The World’s Most Experienced Airline’ campaign and the A380 launch. I also coordinated the complex multimillion-dollar campaign for ‘I still call Australia home’ to strengthen customer connection with the brand. During this time, I owned a large marketing budget in addition to managing a team of 20 to deliver key marketing objectives.

    • General Manager Marketing Communication & Sponsorships
      • Jul 2005 - Feb 2008

Responsible for the development and execution of marketing communications strategies across domestic and international, my focus was to secure brand positioning consistently across new and existing markets. I managed the launch of several new products, including Skybed, Premium Economy and the First Lounge, and the launch of new logo and livery across the fleet. During this time, I managed Qantas’ sizeable sponsorship portfolio including negotiation and optimising the use of properties to maximise ROI and deliver on brand objectives. This included the coordination of high-profile events including a VIP event held in Melbourne during the Commonwealth Games for 1500 guests. I was also responsible for the management of a large marketing budget, leadership of a team of 14 and management of relationships with external agencies. Keeping abreast of market activity and macro-level economic trends was essential in this role to maintain a commercially relevant approach to marketing activities.
