  I hold 2 roles with the Council: 1. I coordinate a provincial group of Young Parent Program staff known as APSYP (the Alliance of Professionals Serving Young Parents). I help to support professionals who work with young parents in BC by keeping them connected through regional meetings and phone calls, by dealing with issues and questions, and organizing an annual conference. I also advocate for support for young parents with government and other groups.2. I coordinate professional development that support the well-being of professionals and bolsters their understanding of how to support the social-emotional development of children.

  I energetically, yet mindfully, co-facilitate Skills for Life for Families parent groups. These groups support parents to learn about social-emotional learning (or Heart-Mind well-being) and how to promote it with the children and youth in their lives. Parents learn about self-regulation for themselves and their children and practice ways to be more mindful and present. In addition to this, I regularly review research related to Heart-Mind Well-Being to stay current with the science behind it.

  My role was to build capacity within the Vancouver School Board to deliver the RSVP Program as a transition from Family Services of Greater Vancouver. I provided information to school staff about the project, liaised with them to deliver groups and programs, reviewed then modified and/or developed forms/materials for the project, supervised a small team of counsellors to provide groups and presentations and overall, provided direction on how the RSVP Program could continue to be successful within schools in Vancouver.

  In this role, I supervised a team of counsellors to provide sensitive, effective therapeutic and psycho-educational groups/presentations with children and youth; collaborated with school professionals to provide a service that supported vulnerable children and youth; answered questions about the RSVP program; took requests from schools and community and coordinated counsellors to meet those request; hired employees; reported on outcomes of the program and supported in writing grant proposals; presented about the program to school-based staff, parents and community professionals; helped to develop the program to meet identified needs; and organized and facilitated meetings/retreats with staff.
