Bio
Wendi Goldsmith, PhD
Jennifer joined the firm on the heels of winning massive task orders for post-Katrina infrastructure. Her can-do attitude helped overcome many daunting conditions such as multiple projects, really tight deadlines, and a high level of scrutiny from local stakeholders all the way to the White House Office of Management and Budget. She is technically talented, personable, and I would recommend her highly for any role, especially where she can rise to the challenges.

Performed modifications to several US nuclear power plants. Each plant operates under its own unique licensing basis, requiring knowledge of multiple unique design documents per site, as well as the historical codes in use at the time of plant construction.Sample project: Performed the structural analysis for the replacement of the Millstone Power Station Unit 3 Component Cooling Water Heat Exchanger. The replacement heat exchanger was substantially heavier than the original, and was designed to be supported above the slab, to allow foot traffic underneath. In addition to the increased loading, large-bore piping induced large additional moments into each of the supports. Analysis included modeling the support structure in PDStrudl, accompanied by extensive hand calculations in MathCAD. Generated models to evaluate off-line support condition, operating and emergency support conditions, and support condition during a postulated seismic event occurring during installation of the heat exchanger.

Responsible for the analysis and design of multi-story industrial structures housing production equipment for mining processes. Projects frequently occur at existing plants and require close cooperation between plant personnel and multiple engineering disciplines. Buildings supported conveyor systems, product elevators, and heavy-duty vibratory sorting screens, in a gravity-fed system, requiring vibratory and rotating equipment to be located at higher building elevations Responsible for the analysis and design of multi-story industrial structures housing production equipment for mining processes. Worked closely with the US Army Corps of Engineers on flood prevention systems in the New Orleans area, post Hurricane Katrina. Designed sector gate, road closure gates, and concrete T-walls, developed to resist hurricane storm surges and impact from shipping and pleasure traffic. Sample project: Trolley gate with removeable rail, spanning Highway 39 outside of New Orleans. Design included gate, battered pile foundation, central pier to support both highway gate and adjacent railroad closure gate, and retaining walls. Was informed at one point during the design that this was among the largest gates of its type in the US. This gate was closed during Hurricane Ivan in 2012 and successfully withstood a storm surge of approximately 12'.

Designed a post-tension hotel on Siesta Key, including acting as the site liaison and threshold inspector during the build. Renovated downtown storefronts. Designed light gage and masonry outbuildings and batter’s eye frame for the Tampa Bay Ray’s practice stadium. Performed structural condition assessment of Charlotte Panther's stadium, and did design work for Miami Dolphin's stadium upgrade. Most of the work at this job was on the coast of Florida or down into Miami-Dade County, and required stringent design for wind/hurricane resistance.
