I write the curriculum for our 9th grade confirmation class, create lesson plans for middle school Sunday school classes, and plan and lead Sunday and Wednesday night youth groups for high school and middle school. At youth group, I work with a team of 3-4 staff to engage the students in meaningful discussions, activities of fellowship, and musical worship. We plan themed youth groups around questions or topics of interest to our students' lives and daily concerns, such as what it means to live out the Gospel in school and how to engage in meaningful relationships with friends, family members, and significant others. I spend time with middle school students once a week after school at a local ice cream shop, and started a new program for high school students called Cafe Connection. Both programs are meant to provide fellowship and create small-group mentoring relationships with the students. I lead a team of 4 other youth staff, and work with them to plan programming and fundraisers for the youth department. Additionally, I plan special events such as volunteer days at nearby retirement communities and progressive dinners. In March I led 20 youth and adults on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic where we worked with a medical team to offer healthcare to sugarcane field workers and did construction work on an elementary school.

In addition to learning the tenets of Christian theology, doctrine, church history, and pastoral/preaching skills, I interned at two inner-city churches in Philadelphia, one traditional and one experimental in worship styles and fucntions in the community. I also spent a summer interning as a hospital chaplain in a cardiac wing, and I interned at a large suburban church in Ohio. In all four field education experiences, I deepened my skills and understanding of Christian Education, Community Outreach, Fellowship Initiatives, Christian Worship, Pastoral Care, and Spiritual Development.
