  As a surgical tech I was responsible for setting up the surgical suite for the upcoming surgery. Making sure the proper equipment was set up and functioning properly. Then I would open and setup the sterile field making sure that all instruments were in working order and all supplies were present. Once the patient was in the room I would assist the nurse and anesthesia with whatever they needed in order to maintain patient safety and to perform their duties efficiently. Then I would assist the surgeon with gowning and gloving, draping of the patient and then with the surgery itself while holding retractors and passing along the instruments. Once the surgery was complete my duties were to maintain patient safety during the wake up process and assist in moving the patient to the stretcher for recovery. I would then breakdown all equipment and instrumentation, dispose of the sharks in the proper container and the biohazard material in the proper waste bin then take my instruments to the decontamination room and send them to sterile processing to be cleaned and sterilized and if need be I would then assist housekeeping in room turnover and then get the next surgical ready in the same fashion.
