Jen Govea
I met Jennifer Davis in October of 2013 when we were both UW Supervisors at Summit Funding. As a colleague, Jenn is extremely team oriented, supportive, and invested in the success of others. Whenever I needed assistance, Jenn made herself available, and would add a perspective that was always relevant and meaningful to my issue. She is a true collaborative problem solver. Her team of underwriters were loyal to her and would often sing her praises. I learned first hand why they were so devoted when Jenn and I made the move to Better in early 2020. There, I reported directly to Jenn for a brief time. As a manager, she is dedicated to the success and growth of her IC's. I have personally experienced how her coaching and guidance allows people to venture outside their own comfort zone and gives them confidence to explore new skill sets. She creates pathways for opportunity when she is able so her team can showcase their hidden talents, or even discover their unknown passions. She truly cares about her team. As part of an upper management team, Jenn adds a wealth of knowledge to any organization. Her many years of underwriting background are obvious, but she also brings tremendous critical thinking, organizational and analytical skills to the table. She has delivered on process improvement initiatives to streamline pain points in the underwriting process. She has the courage to challenge procedures when appropriate and can offer viable alternatives to improve efficiency. She is a self-starter, is highly motivated, and is a proven leader. Her next team will be gaining a valuable asset.

Over the last two years, I have had the pleasure of working for and with Jennifer Davis. During my time, she was collaborative, and supportive to her peers. I have stolen many of her strong habits to make myself a better manager and leader. She taught me how to utilize technology to become more organized. I also became a much stronger remote manager by utilizing many of her best practices on a daily basis (such as structured check-ins, regular team building exercises and employee appreciation). Overall she has all the characteristics of a great leader however there is much more. She is very knowledgeable in all underwriting products, such as FHA, and Jumbo underwriting. I was able to lean on her for second opinions and I was able to walk away feeling confident in my decision rather than just being told what to do. She has the skill set to handle many large scale projects. Jennifer build out reporting and tracked the production capabilities across the underwriting organization. Additionally she spearheaded the underwriting bonus / automation. This allowed many of the underwriting managers across the organization to spend less time each month manually calculating points and ensured consistency in the department. If given the opportunity to work with Jennifer Davis again, I would jump at the opportunity, whether that is working for, with, or managing her. She truly would be an asset to any company, and I am certain Jennifer would quickly become an important part of any organization.
