At Altus Christian Academy I have engaged students using technology (smart board, iPads, videos), implemented growth mindset classroom management techniques that have been adapted throughout our school, and initiated school wide STEAM days, organizing activities, materials, student groups and parent volunteers. I conference with parents quarterly to partner with them in their child's education. I have created quarterly assessments for phonics and writing that are now used throughout our grade level. I have been homeschooling our three daughters for the past three years. Due to several moves, there were gaps in their education and we took the time to catch them up. It has been a wonderful experience and I am blessed to have spent so much time with my children, but now I feel it is best for them to continue their education in a traditional school setting. While homeschooling, I taught not only my own children, but also many others at a homeschool co-op. I taught a math class for all levels of students which challenged and enhanced my differentiation skills! I also taught two different writing classes, one for K-3 and another for 4-7. I also taught a class for 7th and 8th graders through Classical Conversations. Homeschooling has broadened my perspective on education and I am excited to share what I have learned in a traditional setting again. Show less

I worked as a first grade teacher developing engaging lesson plans and adminstering various assessments to gauge student progress throughout the year. I worked with several ELL students and all were reading on or above level at the end of the school year. Teaching is my passion and I am currently working towards adding a reading endorsement to my teaching certificate.

As an intern at Westshore Elementary I learned the art of classroom management. The teachers I worked with in this Title 1 school were able to show me how to handle a large class (28 students) on various levels and meet their needs. We created lesson plans as a team and remained an organized excited team of teachers despite the large class sizes.
