      I worked side by side as an assistant to Dr. Lauren Jensen. We traveled around the South Texas/ Hill Country Area nursing homes, providing routine eye examinations as well as checking the health of the resident’s eyes. As an assistant, I would communicate with the social worker, Director of Nurses or staff at the nursing homes to help our optometrist have an efficient visit. During the exams I would bring the residents to Dr. Jensen, help with patient’s Visual Acuity check, cleaning, fixing and adjusting glasses, cleaning all the equipment, auto-refactor, P.D measurement and fitting patients for glasses. If Dr. Nelson or Dr. Jensen needed extra tests run on the residents, I would run VEP’s or ERG’s and log/attach to the residents’ charts.

      At the short time I was with Dr. Krishnan’s Office, I was brought in to help in every area. I helped with the front desk, greeting and checking out patients. I rescheduled patients to come back for their follow ups or testing. I shadowed the head of the surgery department. I verified eligibility for patient’s insurance for exams and surgeries, I filed and submitted insurance claims, as well as calling insurance companies that payment was not received. I called PCP’s, VA, Medicaid and Tricare to extent or get new Authorizations.
