Research project: 'The control of appetite in the developing marsupial tammar wallaby'.Aim: Analyse how food intake signals develop in marsupials. Methods: • Perform molecular biology assays, including RNA isolation, molecular cloning with bacteria, primer design, PCR, and quantitative PCR. • Use of other molecular techniques for the analysis of receptors and hormones involve in the control of appetite including detection, localization and quantification by immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).• Genetic and scientific data analysis in R and other bioinformatic and biostatistics software and tools.

Research project: 'Winter Huddling and Kinship in the Marsupial Dromiciops gliroides' Aim: Study kinship relationships in winter huddling groups. Methods: • Performed molecular biology assays, including DNA isolation and PCR amplification. • Performed quality controls of extracted DNA using different methods such as absorbance and fluorescence (NanoDrop spectrometer and Qubit fluorometer) and agarose electrophoresis. • Used genotyping techniques including Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) detection using genotyping-by-sequencing systems such as DArTseq, and Single Sequence Repeats (SSRs) or microsatellites using microsatellites PCR and DNA fragment analysis by capillary electrophoresis for kinship analysis. • Data analysis in R and other tools. • Supported field research activities including organising and conducting fieldwork in Chiloe Island, Chile.

• Supported field research activities including sample collection, processing, and record-keeping. • Worked in remote locations such as Chiloé Island (Chile) for weeks to months under rough weather conditions. • Walked for long periods to set up traps, change baits or check traps. • Prepared, lifted, and carried fieldwork equipment on foot, including traps and gear. • Performed capture (traps and nets), restraint (physical and chemical), and handling of various animals. Research Projects: ‘Evaluation of the effects of human landscape perturbation on population parameters of the Guiña (Leopardus guigna) on Chiloé Island’ (PI: Dr Constanza Napolitano, University of Chile) and ‘Demography of the arboreal marsupial Dromiciops gliroides in old-growth and degraded native forest from the north Chiloé Island’ (PI: Dr Juan Luis Celis, University of Chile).
