The Manager of Licensure and Backgrounds is responsible for oversight and leadership of the Licensure and Background Bureaus which are responsible for reviewing a processing an average of 12,000 background checks and licensure applications a year. Ensures every educator has a cleared background and is fully licensed by -Recruiting, hiring, training and supervising licensure consultants and backgrounds specialists -Reviewing FBI background checks and related documents to ensure all applicants have a background cleared by the department -Referring applications to the Investigations Bureau for further review in cases where a background can't be cleared - Reviewing applications to ensure they are in compliance with state statute -Developing communication protocols for staff to ensure applicants, educators, and LEAs receive timely support and guidance - Assigning applications to licensure consultants to ensure efficient processing -Working with internal IT team and external vendor to ensure the Licensure Portal functions properly and is consistently improved to meet the needs of applicants and educators -Providing technical assistance and support to LEA HR leaders, superintendents, charter school leaders, and applicants -Ensures the alignment of current policies with the strategic plan and the national education landscape by -Working closely with the Assistant Director of Educator Quality to review rule related to licensure and educator preparation -Engaging stakeholders within and outside the agency to identify other recommendations -Providing recommendations for updates to the Director of Educator Quality and the Director of Policy -Working with the Policy Division to make updates through the rule making process. Respond to calls and emails returned with 24-48 hours • Responsible to assist with scanning and or indexing of documents into the imaging system to ensure that all incoming mail and other paper documents are filed into the proper applicant's file. • Consult with district regarding discrepancies with teacher licenses. • Establish quality control to ensure that licenses are appropriately issued and completed in a timely manner. • Produce issued licenses for administrators, teachers, and all instructional support staff, technical assistance, internal team consultation and quality control. • Complete internal audits of employees and licensee's files for 40/80/120-day reporting for district and charter schools Show less
