The goal of this research is to target oxidases within barnacle glue and determine how they affect the mechanical integrity of the barnacle adhesion/glue strength. • Synthesis of a double network gel (polyacrylamide/alginate) as the surface of barnacle growth. Then using a peel test to determine the strength of the barnacle adhesion. • Research barnacle literature and synthesize findings in a report for lab researchers. • Utilize research reports to advance lab experiments of different enzymes to target cofactors important to native enzymes in the barnacle glue. • Prepare and orally present findings of enzyme activity results to research group.

The goal of this project was to identify the materials needed to make the most cost-efficient ultrasensitive, ion-selective electrode. • Determined the best materials and amount of materials needed for the synthesis of the copolymer made from methyl methacrylate and lauryl methacrylate. • The initial phase of this work focused on the synthesis of the copolymer that is the building block of the hydrogel. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) and poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) will be used to construct a series of graft copolymers.
