I spent 3 semesters in this program as a student and 2 semester as a Peer Mentor. In this virology lab we were studying the mechanism of viral infection with the hope of using this data to create an attenuated vaccine. Cloning, cell culture, and assays were the main techniques that I learned though this experience. I spent 3 semesters in this program as a student and 2 semester as a Peer Mentor. During this internship I organized and input data about congenital hemangiomas. These are benign tumors that children are born with; physicians and researchers are still working on understanding the best treatment options as well as the long-term impacts and complications that can arise when living with these tumors. Therefore, the goal of this study was to track the progression of congenital hemangiomas, evaluate the impact of different treatments, and to observe any long-term complications. I was also able to shadow various specialities during this internship. Show less
