I worked with Jen on the school sponsored magazine 'Think Box'. She organized meetings, interviewed students, gathered content helped with layout and design. She pretty much made the whole thing possible. Jen is an asset for any company looking to grow.

I started out as a volunteer in 2014, just wanting to learn, design and hone my skills. To be a part of a team of like minded individuals. When the Art Director left in the beginning of 2015, I got the unique opportunity to step into that role, being as I had little preparation or experience. I've gained much knowledge along the way, slowly developing and shaping the brand into what it is today. I imagined I would decide to end my time as a volunteer if I wasn't continuing to learn, but here I am starting my 6th season with RCR, as a paid employee and STILL learning! This job has widened my skillset significantly and I am thankful for every person who has mentored me along the way. On the management side, I have learned how to be a leader, how to manage a collaborative team, set deadlines, assign tasks and build out project management. On the design side, I have learned brand continuity, developing designs for marketing campaigns, transitioning from print marketing to digital and so much more. Now I am learning After Effects and Animation and I couldn't be more excited! I feel like as a designer, you must always have the desire to learn and I am glad that this job has given me the opportunity to learn and to grow.

At The Columbian we work with a number of clients in all fields, designing ads for the printed paper and online. I primarily help with real estate specific ads and create simple animated GIFs for various auto companies. Beyond that, I work closely with the Circulation Department developing targeted marketing campaigns that can be used as filler in paper and online.
