During my time at the University of Cambridge, I was a Visiting PhD student at the Centre of Latin American Studies (CLAS) and a Visiting Researcher at the Margaret Anstee Centre for Global Studies. I carried out part of my doctoral research, under the supervision of Professor Emma Mawdsley from the Department of Geography and Professor Jessika Sklair, a member of CLAS and MAC. The research focused on analyzing the Trilateral Centers for South-South Cooperation in partnership with the UN, specifically the Brazilian cases. The Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil, and the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG), are relatively innovative forms of trilateral development partnerships. Initiated through an UN-Brazilian dialogue, these Centres have since been set up elsewhere, with host countries including China, India, Singapore, Turkey and Ivory Coast. Each constitutes a partnership with a specific UN organisation and has a thematic focus. The main aim of the two Brazilian Centres of Excellence is to instrumentalize the diffusion and transfer of Brazilian public policies to other countries in the global South. Based on archival research and interviews with key stakeholders, my research analyses the emergence of these Centres, their political and development implications for the evolving field of South-South Cooperation; as well as the turbulent and changing domestic contexts within which they have evolved. The results of this research process were presented at a Seminar held at Newnham College on 23 February 2022.

The National Council for Food and Nutrition Security (Consea) consisted of an immediate advisory body to the Presidency of the Republic, which was part of the Brazilian National System of Food and Nutrition Security (Sisan). Consea was composed of two-thirds of representatives of Civil Society and one-third of government representatives (Ministries and Secretariats). At CONSEA I worked for 2 years as a National Counselor, representing the NGO Engajamundo in the youth segment. Acting in the Permanent Commission 1 (Sisan and National and International Challenges), I was alongside other Counselors articulating the construction of Public Policies related to the themes of International Food Aid and Assistance, Humanitarian Cooperation, implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, among others.

As a member of Latin America Research team, comprised of twelve persons of Brazil and Argentina, I acted in the research about the trajectory of Contract farming in Brazil, elucidating the implications of those contracts for family farmers livelihoods and Food Security. The research process consisted of: a biographical survey of previous assessments on Contract Farming; interviews with family farmers from different sectors that had contracts with industries; visits to industries that had contracts with family farmers to analyze the product purchase process; interviews with the owners of the industries; elaboration of a final report with the results of the research, and with suggestions for policymakers. The Studies from India, Zimbabwe and Brazil were presented in the International Symposium on Contract Farming and Other Inclusive Business Models held by Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) between 8 and 9 November 2018 in Harare, capital of Zimbabwe.

At SEDH I had the oportunity to work in a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the Food Purchase Programme implemented in eleven cities by the Paraiba state government. The assessment process resulted in a Final Report presented to the Executive Programme Manager. The Report provided information about the performance of the institutions involved at the execution of the Food Purchase Programme, about the impacts of the Programme on the socioeconomic and nutritional conditions of the beneficiaries (family farmers) and community, as well as brought suggestions to the Secretariat concerning the improvement of the Programme efficiency.
