Ms. Shetland was outstanding in her position, supporting the employees, community, and students by establishing the Events and Venue office as the College’s first coordinator. Ms. Shetland created processes, structure, and streamlined the office, establishing an all-online facility use system to support internal and external facilities use. Ms. Shetland also conducted trainings on the new system and also facilitated new revenue streams by creating marketing and outreach materials. Ms. Shetland was instrumental in managing many high-profile events, including multiple events with Congresswoman Waters, Assemblyman Harris-Dawson, and many celebrities including Snoop Dogg and Lil’ Nas X. Jen worked within campus processes to establish a qualified list of subject matter experts to support large-scale theater rentals, enhancing the customer experience for our vendors. Ms. Shetland also established the Events and Venue College budget, annually developing the budget and serving as budget manager throughout the year, including overseeing purchasing, requisitions, board approvals, and reconciliations. During my four years as College President, I worked very closely with Ms. Shetland upon her hiring into the President’s Office. From my observations and experiences, she has always been the epitome of professionalism and collegiality. She brought a deep care for serving underserved populations within our service area, applying her equity lens to the work, providing the highest level of customer service to all students, employees, and community members. Ms. Shetland was instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting her role to support online operations. During the pandemic, Ms. Shetland independently completed an extensive facility rental rate assessment, ensuring LASC was competitively priced within the region. The outcome of this assessment supported my adjustments to both the facility rates, the establishment of a K-12 rate to support our partners, and improved the overall ease of facility use at LASC. I am deeply grateful for Jen and her work ethic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was tasked with coordinating all nine virtual graduations for the Los Angeles Community College District. Ms. Shetland served as my co-chair and was instrumental in the vendor selection, coordination, and overall successful college graduations for the District in 2020 and 2021. Ms. Shetland also supported my office with the coordination of the Deans’ Scholars Awards Ceremony and the President’s Honors and Scholarship Ceremony. Another large-scale project was the LASC virtual orientation and college tour. Jen served as a lead with this project as well. Working across the campus constituencies to ensure the college was ready for filming, scripts were completed, volunteers were prepared to record, and the vendor was kept informed. With her leadership, we successfully launched a new, improved online orientation for new students as well as a new virtual campus tour.

It is not often you find someone who is truly a jack-of-all trades, but in this case it is more a Jen-of-all trades. Over the past two years I have had the pleasure of working in tandem with Jennifer, executing countless events big and small. In this time I came to really appreciate the level of detail and care that Jennifer puts into every event and production handling multiple projects day in and day out. She is passionate about what she does and has a way of calming a room of anxious clients. Jennifer would be an amazing addition to any production team.
