I currently work as a Support Assessment Officer at the SHIP (Single Homeless Intervention and prevention) office. I cover the reception desk and do initial assessments when on duty according to the rota, I also answer general enquires from clients and support workers by phone and e mail. When covering the reception desk I ask basic questions to assess whether the customer needs advice at the reception desk or whether they need to be assessed by a duty officer in an interview room to ensure confidentiality. I advise clients on their rights and point then in the right direction if another service is able to offer more suitable assistance. I have a working knowledge of who would be eligible for public funds/housing and if not who they could contact for assistance (if applicable). I complete full needs assessments with cases allocated to me. I meet with clients, their SLAM/Social workers, I liaise with probation officers, support workers and other council departments during the assessment period before making a decision on their cases.
