I joined the CBLDF to rebuild the organization after a management crisis. My work involves advising on legal matters pertaining to the comic arts, providing legal representation in litigation, expanding the scope of the organization's charitable services, redesigning the organization's convention outreach, relaunching its fundraising initiatives, and reforming the core aspects of the CBLDF's institutional infrastructure, such as financial management, development initiatives, public programming, stakeholder communications, and governance. I created and continue to teach the Fashion Ethics, Sustainability, and Development course for the Fashion Law Institute, the world's first academic center dedicated to the legal and business issues of the fashion industry. Subjects covered in this course include drafting ethics policies, conducting ethics training, developing practical ethics strategies, addressing complex ethics matters, anticipating emerging ethical concerns, and understanding the fundamentals of such key issues as Sarbanes Oxley, Dodd Frank, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, environmental regulation, sustainable sourcing, cause marketing, trade association guidelines, third-party certification, crisis management, and the role of effective information design in ethics training & communications strategy. I also cover ethics issues in co-teaching the master's degree capstone course. Currently on leave as Associate Director while I assist the CBLDF, in my managerial role I've helped provide strategic advice and management services to an innovative nonprofit dedicated to the intersection of fashion, business and law. My work for the Fashion Law Institute has included advising start-ups and emerging designers, developing public programming and participating in dozens of panels, building a global network, co-authoring legal and strategic guides, co-producing fashion shows as an official part of New York's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (including the revolutionary first plus-size fashion show), managing Fashion Law Bootcamp programs in New York and Silicon Valley, advising government officials on ethics reform relevant to the fashion industry, and developing and conducting ethics training for fashion brand employees.
