Jeffrey is a conscientious, empathetic, and talented person who taught us as much, if not more, than we taught him during his StoryCorps internship during the summer of 2019. His duties included interacting with visitors in our exhibit space at the Chicago Cultural Center, helping track and report information such as outreach activities and appointments, designing engaging materials for our live listening event and forming his own outreach partnership. Jeffrey excelled at creating materials for our Envisioning Justice event, which shared stories of mass incarceration, gun violence, and the criminal justice system in Chicago. He designed an event logo, the flyer, and the program. He photographed the event, created an Instagram story about it, and designed thank you cards. He also made a Soundcloud playlist and released a story each day on Facebook. His work allowed for unmatched, professional pre and post promotion for the event. Thanks to Jeffrey’s ethnographic experience he excelled at interviewing participants who came to StoryCorps alone. I highly recommend Jeffrey for any position he applies for.

Jeffery worked for me as an intern and did an amazing job. We conducted anthropological research in which Jeffrey collected and analyzed Data, presented Data at a conference, and helped coauthor materials. His zeal and mind were great assets for the research project.

OVERVIEW As a youth development specialist at Boys and Girls Club of America (Greater Redlands and Riverside), I plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate programs, such as education, social recreation, arts, and sports to create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes. I am gaining experience in teaching and creating programs that spark interest in a diverse group of students grades 3 to 6. Also, I am learning how to give direction, teach, and supervise students through google classroom. ACHIEVEMENTS Currently, my achievements as a youth development specialist are grounded in the academic field, but are easily transferable to other fields. These achievements and skills are: • Promote and stimulate program participation. • The creation of a program called ‘Snackademic’ which aligns my interest in scholarly research and conferences with the taste-buds of students and critical Common Core Standards (CCS) of the United States. In this program students learn how to conduct research, cite sources, and create a research poster that is presented to the class in conference style. Snacks and topics are provided by me. • Teaches and cares for more than 20 students creating a safe and enriching environment for learning. • Ensure a productive work environment through participation in staff meetings, in which we discuss and evaluate programs. • Create and implement enrichment lesson plans that address Common Core Standards (CCS). • Learned how to implement Google Classroom for social distanced learning. OVERVIEW As a StoryBooth intern at StoryCorps Chicago, I honed my skills in collecting, organizing, and examining interviews of diverse populations. I also gained new experiences in office culture; public outreach and partnership development; coordination and execution of events; and aligning my anthropological interest in social media with company goals and aspirations. ACHIEVEMENTS Key achievements I have gained during my internship are experiences that transpired ‘on the ground’ working for at StoryCorps Chicago. These experiences have given me a wide range of relevant and transferable skills that include: • A keen ear for hearing and finding the heart of interviews. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with co-workers and customers. • Company awareness and the importance of company culture, message, goals, and aspirations. • Social Media communication, marketing, and branding. • Creation of social media editorial calendar and content for company social media platforms. • Sharing knowledge through leading workshops on social media and design. • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines. • Community outreach and partnership with organizations to amplify company presence. • Partnership research and creation of company pitch deck. Overview As a research intern for Professor Brandon Fryman of University of La Verne, I learned how to employ a wide-range of literature and research methods to explore how Native Americans practice hoop-dancing for community healing. This research gave me experience in working with and interviewing a diverse group of people, accessing public and academic articles, collecting, and organization of data, and presentation of research at academic conferences. Achievement My experience as a research intern was invaluable as it allowed me to put into practice coursework in research design and execution. As a research intern my achievements and gained skills follow as such: • Conducted interviews and participant-observation to collect data. • Collected, outlined, and annotated a wide-range of literature (Articles, photographs, and videos). • Organized data into a codebook. • Utilized Microsoft PowerPoint to create a poster for presentation at South Western Anthropological Association conference.
