Access PT, a family-owned business, opened its doors in 2003. It grew quickly to include dozens of locations in the State of New York and surrounding locations. Unfortunately, as a result of the Covis-19 pandemic, it was forced to reduce staff including the Cortland Manor facility. I was hired to manage the center with 4 PTs, 3 front desk personnel, and several aids. Besides managing day-to-day operations which included keeping up the inventory of clinic supplies as well as the basic role of evaluation and treatment of our patients, I was charged with business development, physician relationships, and general marketing. The clinic saw as many as 850 patients a month with a policy to treat no more than 2 patients an hour giving extraordinary one-on-one attention. By attending local medical group and business meetings, I was able to build up new relationships that evolved into new business and continuing referrals. Bringing a positive and compassionate attitude to the job resulted in a much more satisfied group of patients and clinic personnel. I was also able to find time to do home care for patients who needed it as well as mentoring PT students from local colleges.Being forced to significantly downgrade the clinic in the face of Covid-19 was one of the saddest days of my life.
