EBC Supervisor

Feb 2021 - Aug 2021
The EBC - Employer Benefit Center- prides itself on the speed and and diligence in which they provide support to our client's benefits administrators. Either over the phone, or through CRM cases, our team of specialists assess, triage, correct, and escalate (when needed) access issues, system errors, and answer questions regarding employee benefits and carrier rules. It's the EBC Team Lead's role to uphold our high standards of efficiency and reliability within our team of support specialists. Some of my duties include: training new employees and coaching current team members; collection and analysis of the team's performance data; on-boarding new clients to our roster of shared services; creation and maintenance of manuals of instructions (SOPs), providing ad-hoc emergency processing services to other teams within the operations departments.

EBC Client Support Specialist
-
Mar 2018 - Feb 2021
As a support specialist in the Employer Benefit Center department (EBC), is our privilege to have the role of ushering our clients through the sinuous paths of insurance and benefits. Our most common daily task consists of assessing and correcting issues in employees' benefits accounts, as requested by our clients' representatives. We also help correct system errors by processing a series of internal data reports, which we, in turn, translate and communicate back to our clients the sources of any errors that may occur with their data. The Manager Access Point (MAP) platform is Empyrean's own creation, and the EBC department is the company's first point of contact for client admins who are new to our systems. Besides our client-facing duties, we're also in constant close contact with various carriers, benefits vendors (Medical, Vision, Dental, Life, and Ancillary products) and brokers, putting together the best solutions for any issues or requirements they may have. As an EBC agent we are trained in a broad number of daily processing functions, so we may better fulfill our clients needs without delays or bureaucratic tag-games. Some of the processes we're also versed in are: carriers error reports processing (EDI); dependent and/or qualifying life event verification; checking, encrypting and submitting carrier files; triaging and escalating tickets regarding to system errors; to name a few.In the latest year I have taken on more responsibilities within the department, and performed various leadership-aligned duties: I've developed an entire on-boarding training program for new hires (as well as personally trained them); I worked on transitioning and streamlining some of our workload to our company's processing department; I have kept track of performance metrics of co-workers and worked on quick-improvement plans with them; and, as the senior-most member of the team, I'm the go-to person for any doubts co-workers may have.

Client Service Representative
-
Oct 2017 - Mar 2018
The position is focused mainly on customer service. We act as benefits navigators for employees with doubts or issues with their employer-offered benefits. In my position as a CSR I also processed documentation, and helped solve coverage issues in contact with carriers and vendors. I became well versed in the software we use daily in this positions (Empyrean's own CRM, and benefits administration platform, called MAP).

Taught 5 classes at the discipline "Communication and Subjectivity" within the course entitled "Youth, Performance and the New Configurations of Work" along with professor Marianna Ferreira. My lectures revolved around media and advertising imagery analysis, weaving a parallel between what types of bodies and behaviors are being incited by mass media nowadays and what were the bodies and the scripts of subjectivities that were being stimulated in images and literature from the 19th century. That kind of comparison would allow the class to perceive the different movements and the politics of mass communication in both periods, as well as realize the role of media in the subjective constitution of workers and the expectations about career.
