From the very onset of a project Jeff's professionalism shines through, his knowledge of the logistics market means that when he says "yes" it will happen and when he says "no" there is a good reason for this. Jeff has a rare ability to inspire confidence in those around him so that within the scope of any project the logistics side can be forgotten safe in the knowledge that it is being dealt with. At no time has this ever proved otherwise!! Basically, if there is anything that needs looking at with a logistic eye, or a different way of doing things, Jeff will know it........

Having worked with Jeff on a number of projects it is evident that he has that rare combinations of talents - change agent and completer finisher. He likes to enage people in projects using his well balanced 'toolkit' of knowledge, experience and interpersonal skills. Working with integrity and stealth, Jeff bring projects to conlcusion. Recognising the needs of key stakeholders and ensuring they are met probably explians why he's so well connected. As an active member of CILT you learn that Jeff doesn't wait for the world to come to him. He actively seeks out opportunities for businesses and individuals and presents them informally and pragmatically.

Intercity Railfreight has been the first company in the UK to fully integrate cycle logistics and electric vehicle first and last mile transport with available capacity on high speed passenger trains to deliver fast, cost effective, sustainable and reliable supply chain solutions. With top speeds of up to 125mph and some centre to centre AVERAGE speeds in excess of 90mph, this model offers a fast and cleaner option for a wide range of distribution challenges. It is also increasingly relevant given that "net zero" remains very much on the political agenda, suggesting that "conventional" deliveries will be increasingly challenged, timed deliveries harder to achieve and distribution generally much more expensive. Working in a wide variety of sectors the company has proven the model over 12+ years by delivering impressive time, cost and emissions savings: it has readily proven itself perfect for ultra-time sensitive consignments such as clinical trials samples, pathology, components, documentation, e-commerce and fresh food. ICRF has demonstrated that scheduled passenger trains can carry a wide variety of freight consignments; from small time-sensitive/perishable/fragile items to entire locked out carriages for retail volumes. This has given rise to growing interest in the concept of "continuous flow" for retail and manufacturing and also the potential for dynamic fulfilment - rapid delivery of "hot lines" by zero emission last mile transport. We are currently working on a modular approach to enable otherwise empty seats on trains to be utilised for the carriage of parcel traffic. The design will ensure that consignments are secure and free from theft or damage. Also designed to enable pick by postcode, "click to seat" and with dramatically reduced packaging waste. Show less

Aceona Management is an international supply chain manager working on the 4PL model and manages a range of business flows including foodstuffs, chemicals, bulk products, and FMCG worldwide. Aceona works in the shipping, air freight, haulage and storage arenas and can assemble solutions that are cost effective and flexible - as the client business changes so the solution can be quickly changed, the primary advantage of the independence of assets afforded by the 4PL model and vital in the face of rapidly changing global trading parameters, uncertainty of fuel costs and growing environmental pressures. 4PL ensures a more thorough risk analysis and wider scenario testing for investment appraisal when changes need to be made. The company has been particularly successful incorporating rail freight into UK domestic supply chains yielding impressive cost and carbon savings and efficiency gains. Aceona's service improves supply chain and manufacturing efficiency by micro-managing consignments to ensure deliveries are to time and costs of quay rent and demurrage avoided. The 4PL model provides the logical foundation for collaborative logistics and supply chain management Show less

Responsible for the setting up of a new rail freight company from scratch. Production of railway safety case, operations planning, operations implementation, recruitment and production of business plan. A lengthy undertaking cutting as it did across all management disciplines and implemented in the face of limited financial resources and a huge legislative compliance burden. A company supplying a combination of consultancy and various systems to a wide range of manufacturing and supply chain businesses - sortation, WMS, track & trace etc. The emphasis was on bespoke software developed in conjunction with a consultancy approach to the business objectives and a more efficient solution to "off the shelf" software that was generally the norm at the time. Working in business development my role was to work with the various operational departments and design logistics solutions for a wide range of businesses on both contract and shared user basis. Like most 3PLs this was focussed on road haulage and storage but included an opportunity to offer a design for a rail-served automated warehouse as part of a bid for a contract with a large home furnishings retailer.
