In 2003, with the blessing of ActiveVideo investors, co-founded Switched Media to create new technologies for cloud-based MPEG compressed domain processing and overlays. In 2005 ActiveVideo acquired Switched Media and I was appointed CEO of the combined operations. Negotiated the acquisition of Avinity Systems in 2009 and Tag Networks in 2010, successfully integrating the teams and technologies to create the CloudTV product for delivering HTML5 applications from the cloud to cable and IPTV set top boxes without browser capabilities. Ultimately delivered guides, search & discovery, and HTML5 apps including Hulu, YouTube, Facebook and games to over 20M set top boxes and connected TVs worldwide and delivered billions of user sessions per month to millions of video viewers. In 2015, I negotiated and closed the acquisition of ActiveVideo by a joint venture between Charter Communications and ARRIS for $135M. ActiveVideo continued to operate as an independent company and I continued as CEO as we developed and sold CloudTV to customers worldwide. In 2019 we announced the development of AppCloud, a public cloud-based virtual Android platform to deliver Android streaming apps from the cloud to any device with a GPU regardless of processor and memory resources or operating system. Deployed AppCloud to 4M customers in 2020 delivering top tier streaming apps entirely from AWS. In 2023, ActiveVideo operations were absorbed into CommScope. During these years, I kept the company financed and led it from pre-revenue through profitability, oversaw the creation of a powerful IP portfolio including dozens of patents and led a successful patent litigation against a Fortune 50 company that led to a large damages award and payout.
