In this role, I reported to the Board of Education (BOE) with a $9.3M OPEX and 80 employees with nine direct. I was responsible for functioning effectively as CEO to the Board of Education. Achieved the following: STRATEGIC PLANNING Collaboratively developed BOE’s first strategic plan in 20 years, sourcing community volunteers, and leading steering committee meetings to focus on objectives. Incorporated Board accountability, aligned human/fiscal resources, and achieved 95% of the objectives one year early, maintaining a 0% or below budget amid a global pandemic. BUDGETING & FORECASTING After conducting an audit of all financials and practices, worked with BOE, town leaders, and administration to develop budgets that included additional programs with no increases, then enforced accountability. Resulted in a 2% budget decrease over six years and $1.7M in returned funds to the community, which maintained a lower level of taxes in the region. BOARD GOVERNANCE Recruited to foster Board unity and resolve interpersonal conflicts due to evolving membership. Interviewed all members and collected data, then created and presented a comprehensive strategy and a timeline to address conflicts. Board recommitted to acting in correlation with policies, improving trust among individuals, and calibrating expectations to result in cohesive leadership despite a constantly changing group of members. TEAM LEADERSHIP / COACHING / MENTORING Developed executive and building-level leadership capacity and strengthened relationships among members. Planned a series of annual retreats to align expectations and foster team bonding which became SOP and spread to the BOE, building cohesion and improving decision-making within the team. Ensured accountability by crafting new administrative evaluation and policy for superintendent evaluation.
