  JOB DESCRIPTIONASSISTANT CHIEFDEFINITION:Under the direction of the Chief; plans, organizes, administers and directs day to day operat¬ions of the fire department, including all services provided by Fire Department.A. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Plans, coordinates and directs operations (emergency/non-emergency) in conjunction with the Fire Chief.2. Assumes responsibility of insuring that policies are followed and enforced.3. In conjunction with Fire Chief develops, establishes and writes policy and procedures relating to day to day operations of Fire Department.4. Insures all supervisors are performing and maintaining their personnel, equipment and stations at the highest level of readiness.5. Under direction of Chief, has the authority to change, delete, add order, repair or purchase as necessary to maintain readiness for our department.6. As manager, supervises up to 70 employees, makes assignments, monitors maintenance, training and counseling.7. Evaluates training by training officer and level one and two supervisors.8. Assists Fire Chief in developing and meeting long range goals and plans.9. Performs a variety of administrative duties, maintains records, reports, and prepares reports. The Training Officer Instructs, Plans, Coordinates all Training Programs, Fire, Rescue and Haz-Mat Drills for the West Memphis Fire Department to meet and maintain the current ISO Rating for the City of West Memphis, NFPA and OSHA Standards, and to Promote Safety and Effective Operations on Emergency Scenes.
