I was incredibly impressed with Jeff Howard's work at Mamtek on many levels. He stepped into a challenging management environment and almost overnight established himself as a leader. He naturally boosts confidence and commands attention. He doesn't use "techniques" to lead. It's second nature. On the technical side, he was able to unravel tremendous complexity in short order and explain solutions to people with varying technical skills. He is pragmatic. Jeff never proposed strange, risky solutions. He recognized that the lab is the best place to test ideas and processes and expected demonstrable, repeatable results. I hope I have the opportunity to work with Jeff again.

Full responsibility for a site manufacturing ammonia and urea ammonium nitrate (UAN). 8 direct reports and 150 employees total. Site had been mothballed for 10 years before recommissioning was started in 2009. I was hired to turn around the plant after it had experienced 3 years of declining output and profitability. I brought structure/discipline to the management team, fostered a PSM culture/program, hired engineering & reliability departments, and developed a strategic 5 year plan for the site. In the first year we increase ammonia output by 89% and UAN output by 36% breaking all production records for the site. We achieved these tremendous results by focusing on: safety/regulatory compliance, reliability and people. We have continued to drive year over year increases in our plant output by having the entire team focused on continuous improvement.
