  I have an active and eclectic litigation practice. My most notable cases defy conventional practice-area labels and have required creative problem solving in the face of challenging, complicated, and rapidly-changing facts. My clients value my candor and objective feedback, spirited advocacy, determined work ethic, strong oral and written communication skills, practical approach to problem solving, and sense of humor. I am licensed to practice in state and federal courts in South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska. I have a solid academic background with extensive experience conducting legal research and drafting briefs. This is the foundation of my practice. Over the past six years, however, I have obtained significant courtroom and jury trial experience, having successfully represented clients in over eight civil jury trials, numerous bench trials, and in several appeals. My most notable cases have been in the areas of medical malpractice defense, product liability defense, personal-injury defense, construction and contract litigation (both plaintiff and defense), insurance law, constitutional law, zoning ordinance disputes, business litigation, and the representation of individuals and businesses in state sales, use, and excise tax matters, including contested-case litigation. My practice evolves with the needs of my current and prospective clients and, drawing from my experience and skills as a litigator, I now provide individuals, companies, and governmental entities with legal representation in conducting internal investigations and crisis-management situations.I am the attorney you call when something significant happens, but the facts and issues are so messy, complicated, overwhelming, bizarre, or dysfunctional that you do not know where to begin. I am proud to have built very strong long-term relationships by assisting clients through situations where, initially, they thought no solution was possible.
