Attended a work experience opportunity at Lister Hospital where I was exposed to a variety of NHS departments such as Pharmaceuticals, Surgery and Pathology. The Biochemistry Department of the NHS Pathology labs gave me the opportunity to see how patients benefit by the application of drugs when formulating treatment options for certain diseases. I also carried out a mock blood test, analysing proteins in the sample, which increased my proficiency and interest in sophisticated experimental techniques.

Spent time at GSK Stockley Park (London) as part of the EDT Industrial Cadets Scheme in the drug discovery programme. This has improved my understanding of the challenges involved in drug discovery as I was taught to think critically about each stage in the process, with careful evaluation of the options available. I carried out research in the area with a team of students to formulate a presentation which was given to professionals from GSK. The experience rewarded me with a Bronze Award in the Industrial Cadets scheme.
