Currently I am working on creating speaking opportunities at 55+ communities throughout the state. I make visits to district Congressional offices in NJ as well as town meetings and local events. Along with my fellow advocates, I have held meetings on Capitol Hill with NJ's Senators and Congressmen on Capitol Hill to keep national focus on this devastating and fatal disease.

    • Columnist
      • May 1995 - Jul 2003

Having my own column was a delight. The agreement I hammered out with the publisher was that no one was permitted to change a word I wrote and that I could write about any musing or subject as long as it pertained to Fire Island/summer beach life in some way. The publisher was dubious at first but as his news magazine started selling out not only in my town but also in the two surrounding communities, he was delighted. Residents stopped me on the walks to tell me how much they enjoyed my writing and the subjects I chose. My column was often quoted in town meetings! A family illness led to my resigning my post. Otherwise I would never have given it up.

    • Senior Writer, Marketing Communications
      • Sep 1979 - Feb 1981

As senior writer, I supervised a staff of writers who worked with me to create sales packages and sales materials from initial concept through completion. I also was called upon to do speech writing for the president of the company and chairman of the board. I also created informative materials for prospective employees and corporate clients. I was involved in all areas of corporate communications: trade ads, press releases and convention materials (which in 1980 garnered a top national award.)

    • Benefits Coordinator/Communications Writer
      • Jun 1974 - Sep 1979

When I joined the newly formed Communications Department of this actuarial company servicing over 300 Fortune 500 clients, my first responsibilities were as Benefits Coordinator and included proofreading, editing, quality control, liaison work between writers and typesetters/printers. Liaison skills with clients was of utmost importance. I was promoted to full time writing within one year, working with prominent clients like Fireman's Fund, Alcoa, Bank of Virginia ,Borden, Cummins Engine, etc. My job included researching and analyzing legal documents to create accurate readable Summary Plan Descriptions tailored to each client. I was voted "Most Valuable Player" by client Scripps Howard in 1977. Being deadline oriented and creative with clear writing and communication skills were key components to succeed in this hardworking, high-intensity think tank.
