Jeanne understands how digital is redefining industries resulting in new winners and losers. I was her professor during the Summer of 2020. The course was Strategy in a Networked Economy and part of the BU Questrom School of Management’s MBA program. As evidence of what she learned, her Capstone project was a board level strategy for Netflix. She answered the question- how can the enterprise continue to innovate, dominate and drive shareholder value? This is a timely question given well financed competition from Disney+, NBC Peacock, and HBO Max. She identified specific new offerings, acquisitions and financial projections. Her model highlighted how they can drive growth taking advantage of network effects, brand and installed base. One memorable class moment was Jeanne’s critique of Pampers Smart Diapers. I was a student in Jeanne’s class, Publishing for Profit, in Emerson’s graduate-level Publishing and Writing Program. Jeanne is a phenomenal professor with a wealth of knowledge in sales and marketing, an unmatched ability to bring complex business concepts to life, and enormous patience and generosity of spirit. It was a privilege to learn from her. Jeanne is one of those rare professors who truly inspires her students to go out into the world and apply what they’ve learned. Learning from Jeanne certainly gave me that inspiration and confidence. It is obvious to me that in a real business setting, as a company executive, Jeanne thrives as a leader, mentor, and skilled business mind. Her impressive business acumen is obvious at every turn and it was an honor to be her student.
