Professor for Introduction to Biotechnology • Lectures include relevant biotechnology topics to help students better understand the field. In addition, I run the laboratory to teach students practical skills, from bacterial culture to DNA isolation and PCR techniques, to work as a research technician in a laboratory. • Targeted metabolomics of acylcarnitines, amino acids, organic acids, nucleotides, and acyl CoAs in cells and mouse and human fluids and tissues, • Supported research programs, grant submissions, and manuscripts of principle investigators nationally and internationally. • Worked on two pharmaceutical projects involving the identification of small molecules that affect metabolism in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Kelly • One project focused on identifying small molecules that affect lipid accumulation in both human and mouse adipose tissue. The other project focused on identifying small molecules that affected transcription regulation in both human and mouse muscle skeletal muscle. • Projects included a wide variety of skills including mammalian and bacterial cell culture, isolating primary mouse tissue for assay development, several different cellular assays, cell staining and visualization techniques, mouse handling and management. • Utilized molecular biology skills including qPCR, RNA/DNA purification, transfections, western blotting, and ELISAs. • Supervised interns taught basic laboratory techniques and directed them in their projects. • Lab manager duties included general lab organization and maintenance, organization of freezer systems, cell lines, maintain genotyping integrity, and ordering/logging supplies.
