    • Rooms Division Management Trainee (MIT)
      • Jun 2014 - Dec 2014

I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the Management Trainees at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel. My focus is on the Rooms Division and so I spend most of my week in the Housekeeping Department, managing floors and inspecting rooms with managerial responsibilities and duties, and have one rotation per week within the following departments: Front Desk, VIP Services, Guest Services, Reservations, and Engineering. I am exposed to how all six different departments cohesively work together within one big division to ensure the operational side is doing its work sufficiently. Throughout my time as an MIT, I have managed up to 20 Room Attendants and close to 300 rooms per day while ensuring that not only regular but also VIP guest rooms are met up to par. At my rotation period with Front Desk, I shadowed different manager positions, such as the Rooms Controller, Lobby Supervisor, AM Manager, and PM Manager. I, then, helped run shifts with the managers to ensure that proper check-in, check-out, and house turn were done efficiently and properly.During my four rotations in VIP Services, I ran both the AM and PM shifts. I worked the Sheraton Club Lounge during breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres, finished an ongoing VIP project assigned by the General Manager, and ensured that all 60+ VIPs coming in per day were receiving the proper guest service.
