I provide one to one support for students in English/Humanities/Social Subjects from grades 9 through 1st year university/college. My work primarily involves writing help. My focus is building good habits to correct errors and ensure continuity and grammatical correctness as a result of the editing process. This method stems from the principles of assessment for learning. For English students from grades 10 to 12, I have covered lessons on The Crucible, The Great Gatsby, Hamlet, King Lear, The Hate U Give, Brother, Fahrenheit 451 and Frankenstein. I have also worked with students in preparation for the OSSLT and in History from the time period from The Great War, through the Great Depression and WWII. My work at the university level involves writing help to improve style and structure for more sophisticated pieces in multiple subjects.

    • Teacher of English and Humanities, Benue House Leader, DofE Award Leader, First Aid Instructor
      • Aug 2013 - Jun 2016

As Benue House Leader, I was responsible for managing 5 Form Tutors and the students within their Tutor Groups; a middle management position on the Pastoral side of things. I also acted as a liaison between Form Tutors and the Vice Principal Pastoral and/or the Vice Principal Boarding. As a Teacher of English and Humanities, I was responsible for teaching KS3 and IGCSE students in the subjects of English Language/Literature and Geography. At TRSS they deliver the Cambridge International Examinations [CIE] Curriculum, including CheckPoint in Year 9. My timetable included 21 one hour periods, out of a possible 27, weekly. The Duke of Edinburgh International Award team consisted of 6 members of staff. From February 2014, I became the de facto DofE Leader when a colleague left the school and I remained an integral part of the leadership of the programme until June 2016. The programme involves supervising and supporting students in achieving their Bronze and Silver Awards at TRSS. They must commit to a skill, a sport and do volunteer work, as well as participate in an adventurous journey AKA expedition. In February 2014, I took 25 students to Wales, UK, for their Bronze expedition and in February 2015 I took 13 students to Ghana for their Silver expedition. In February 2016, I took our largest group in the school's history, 44 students, to Wales for their Bronze expedition.I was trained in July 2014 by NUCO Training as a First Aid Instructor. My training allowed us to bring First Aid Training in-house for both DofE Candidates and Staff at TRSS. I taught at least 100 members of the TRSS community First Aid. Over and above my main duties, I led a number of activities including: Y9 English Booster, Creative Writing, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Badminton, 'Youth Engaged' [volunteer programme] and the Philosopher's Breakfast discussion group.

    • Teacher of Geography
      • Feb 2011 - Jun 2011

I taught a Year 9 KS3 group and a Year 10 GCSE group Geography at this Boys' School. I was found on the Scottish Council for Independent Schools register of available teachers by the Head of Geography and contacted directly about taking on a short term position. I was involved in some paid scribing during examination time. Since I had the rare chance of working at both a Boys' and a Girls' school during this time, the Headmaster, Andrew Hunter, asked me to provide a report highlighting the similarities and differences.

    • Teacher of Travel & Tourism, Houseparent
      • Aug 2010 - Jun 2011

With the closure of St Margaret's School in June 2010, I was called for a meeting to St George's School and offered a position to work as a Houseparent within a team of staff. Through this position I took a First Aid at Work qualification and underwent Child Protection CPD. I did some longer term supply teaching in the subject of Higher Travel and Tourism; my experience with travel and in Retail, Restaurants and Golf Courses allowed me to use my first hand experience in my teaching. I also provided internal un-paid scribing during mock examinations.

    • House Mistress, Supply Teacher, Holiday Club Manager.
      • Nov 2009 - Jun 2010

I began my interaction with St Margaret's School as a volunteer member of staff. I observed classes, taught portions of lessons and took on the Eco Schools Project. About a month after my volunteering began, I was offered the Housemistress position. I jumped at the chance and became responsible for 5 full time Boarders, a number of occasional Boarders, 4 GAP students from Australia/New Zealand and 1 German exchange student. I budgeted for, planned and prepared meals for them every night of the week and organised a number of activities. I liaised with the Pastoral team and the Principal directly. I also was able to participate in some long term paid supply work in the subject of Business Studies. For the February Half-Term and Easter Holidays, I took on the position of Holiday Club Manager. I was required to schedule staff timetables and activities as well as manage staff on a day-to-day basis during the Holiday Club for children aged 2-10. Unfortunately, St Margaret's closed permanently in June 2010; otherwise I would have remained there much longer.

    • Childcare Therapist
      • Dec 2007 - Jun 2009

I took extensive training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention in order to be qualified to work as a Childcare Therapist. Some CPD included a day course in Trauma and Vicarious Trauma. I worked one-on-one with individual children as well as within a team at Bayfield in the care of high-risk adolescent males. My responsibilities included occasional cooking, caring for and driving boys to various appointments and activities. I also sat within classrooms at Bayfield School to support teaching staff. I produced educational and artistic displays in one of the houses I worked in, please see the image attached. This position was a great link between my BA Honours in CJPP and my Teaching Qualification. You can find Bayfield at their website: bayfield.net.
