As the Northern River Area Director for Special Olympics of Arizona I manage the existing Special Olympics Programs located on the Colorado River. This includes meeting quarterly with four different program groups, managing their travel accommodations and finances, assisting with their uniform and equipment needs and developing fundraising opportunities for them. I also work to develop new programs throughout the areas on the river by introducing the programs Special Olympics of Arizona has for schools and community programs. Show less

      • Feb 2007 - Oct 2013

As a Special Education teacher at Bullhead City Elementary School District I taught a Resource Classroom that had students with mild intellectual impairments to learning disabilities. I differentiated instruction for students who were able to read at a 4th grade level to non-reading students. I taught math lessons to students with various academic needs. I also taught in a self-contained classroom with students who had more severe needs such as moderate to severe cognitive impairments, autism and some physical disabilities. I worked with a team of three to four para-professionals daily and coordinated my schedule with service providers for the students that consisted of speech, physical therapy, occupational therapy and hearing/vision specialists. I coordinated individualized schedules for 8-10 students at a time, trained my para-professionals on how to teach/communicate/interact with the students we worked with, trained the para-professionals on how to follow classroom and individual schedules. I advocated for my students by getting them involved in the general education curriculum for extra-curricular activities, electives and some core classes. Show less
