Thomas Yuill
Jayden is an awesome design collaborator, constantly sharing his work and actively requesting feedback in order to continually iterate and improve. His innate curiosity, paired with his design and development skills enable him explore UX problems from unique perspectives and arrive at novel solutions. While I worked with Jayden he lead a UX exploration of the Shopify.dev search experience. He bridge the gap between UX and engineering by engaging and facilitating communication across disciplines. After an initial competitive analysis he put on his developer hat and dove into elasticsearch to better understand the data powering our existing search experience. He paired with our engineers to help identify the root of the problem impacting the poor relevance scores of some of our query results. He then shared these insights with the larger team which was a real eye opener. Next, Jayden collaborated with our UX team to design and build a new "filtered" search experience in our actual code base, with affordances to enable users to find more relevant results quicker. His UX explorations and working prototype de-risked some of the major questions about how we both design and build a new search experience for Shopify.dev, rapidly accelerating our product development velocity. Jayden is a great example of the value a design technologist can bring to the product development process. I really hope we get to work together again.
